About

I spent years standing in front of university classrooms before I ever thought about picking up a camera.

Rome, Italy

As a lecturer, I worked with students from all kinds of cultural backgrounds — different ways of thinking, learning, communicating. It taught me more about people than any textbook could, and it's a lens I still carry with me today.

I've now lived in several different countries and traveled to 18+ of them, and somewhere along the way I stopped thinking of travel as an escape from work and started seeing it as part of it. Every place I've been has added something — a perspective, a question, a small shift in how I see things — and that's shown up in both my academic work and my writing.

That's really what this site is about. I share what I learn as I go — through the guides I write, the notes I keep on the side, and the videos I've been making for a while now on YouTube, where about 9,500 of you have stuck around to watch.

None of it is about ticking places off a list. It's about paying attention to where I am and passing along what's actually useful.

Still exploring, still learning, still writing it down as I go.
